re blog #3 first is in my comments on the first blog!

Blog Entry #3
In this forum, I want you to discuss one thing you have learned in this unit as well as at least one thing you have a question about (you must include both to receive all of the points available.)

As of unit 3, I have learned how to: correct sentence fragments, run-ons, Pronouns, and subject verb agreement. Out of all the English classes I have taken in the past, I have never quite understood all this until now. I love learning new things about the internet and being in an online class like this one, helps tremendously. Blogging was a little rocky in the beginning but now that it is the third one I think I have the hang of it. Now all I have left to learn about blogs is how to comment on other class mates blogs. My major question I have right now is how do you paraphrase something that is already dummyfied? And I don’t understand how to even begin because every rout leads to plagiarism!!! HELP PLEASE!!!! I think that it would be nice to have a YouTube video or something that could maybe shows us an example on how to paraphrase. This college course is way harder than English I. It would be pretty wicked awesome if some of us students could get together in a group and kind of help each other. Like maybe 2 or 3 times a week since most of the students are already up here at the school. Plus, it would be really cool if we could we could do like a group project for the final exam instead of the main test. But that will most likely not happen. Or another thing that would be nice is if we could just not have a final at all…haha… But that probably will not happen either!

  1. I think every student in this class would love not having a final! I highly doubt Mrs. Hall would go for that one though. I really think working in groups does help a lot of people learn better, but we took this online class knowing if we could learn and understand everything from a computer screen. I would try to help you with your paraphrasing question, but I have not even looked at the excercise yet. Yes, I know that is sad. I hope someone can help you!

  2. I share some of your same concerns about plagiarism. I worry about citing works incorrectly and I am not very good at paraphrasing or summarizing. I hope to learn a more advanced vocabulary so, I am able to word assignments more easily. I also share in your experience with the blog system, I had to form a blog in English I. My instructor was of no assistance so, I used trial and error. Mrs. Hall was good to give a helpful web site for the new bloggers to use. Good luck.

  3. The sentence fragments were a bit challenging at first until I have to think back in elementary when I was first introduced to doing them. And that has been a long time since I did them. A lot of this unit brings back memories and causes me to do a little more thinking than usual.

  4. Unfortunately, group work is exceptionally difficult to pull off in an online class, largely because I can't make students access the class at a specific time, and many students can't come to campus during the "normal" campus hours. And I am required to give a final.

As far as a video on paraphrasing, I will hunt through some things on youtube and see if I can find anything helpful.
